Wedding

With the U6 underground and the S1/S2 city-train you reach the eastern, with the U9 the western city centre. The ring train (S41/41) connects Charlottenburg and Prenzlauer Berg.

More than the other workmen's districts emerged in 19th century around Mitte like Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg, Wedding has preserved its original character. If you go for the common people's mind, the "Schnauze mit Herz" (big mouth and big heart), this is your place – and likewise if you want to dwell near the centre for good value: Mitte, Tiergarten, Charlottenburg, Prenzlauer Berg and Tegel airport neighbour Wedding. The multicultural atmosphere with the often bilingual shop signs (German and Turkish) can be sensed as well as in Kreuzberg. Two green oases mark the borders of the "red" labour district Wedding: the vast Humboldthain park in the East and the idyllic Plötzensee lake in the Southwest close to Charlottenburg. The construction of the Wall provided the Bernauer Straße on the border to Mitte with a sad fame; a memorial reminds of the victims.
