Berlin's Surroundings
Day Trips
Berlin has a lot to offer: culture, history and green landscapes. But if you want to see more or make a stopover on your way from or to the capital you'll find many other charming places in Brandenburg, the federal state surrounding Berlin. Varied landscapes under blue skies, large lake and river territories and numerous sports and recreation offers make a visit in Brandenburg worthwhile.
The Baltic Sea and cities like Hamburg, Dresden or Leipzig can be easily reached from Berlin or can be stopped at when travelling to or from Berlin - they are well worth a visit, too.
Potsdam
Potsdam, the summer residence of the Prussian kings, lies southwest of Berlin. The palaces and spacious parks spread the charming atmosphere of ancient times.
The city centre of Potsdam with the picturesque Holländisches Viertel (Dutch quarter) and the traditional Russian colony Alexandrowa call up the past.

Spreewald
The Spreewald forest, a cultivated water landscape with a widespread labyrinth of small rivers, is unique in Europe. Boat trips on the water ways are one of the most fascinating experiences in Brandenburg.

South of Berlin
The delightful scenery of the Dahme-Seengebiet area with its woods and lakes is a popular destination for local recreation. In the thermal bath and wellness facilities of the spa Bad Saarow you find real relaxation. The exotic bathing worlds of Tropical Island in Krausnick also create holiday feelings.

West of Berlin
The lake landscape of the area Havelland is a paradise for water sportsmen. In the convent Lehnin, the oldest convent in Brandenburg, concerts take place in an atmospheric setting. And if you get to Ribbeck, where Fontane's famous pear once stood, you should also take a little break. It's worth it.
